Chapter2.Built-in help system

Table of Contents

2.1. Manual ("man") pages
2.2. GNU info pages

Before you try searching the Web for information on a command, consider checking Linux's extensive built-in help system first. In addition to the information in Section2.1, “Manual ("man") pages” and Section2.2, “GNU info pages”, many (but not all) commands will provide basic usage information if they are invoked with the --help option. As an example, try typing man --help at the prompt.
